| Backgammon is an interesting
board game for two players in which the play piece is moved by the
rolling of a dice by the players affecting a certain
strategy in each other’s moves. Though there are many variants of
the game Backgammon, it still is one of the oldest games of the
board game family. The players have a great scope to use their own
strategies and techniques to hinder their opponent moving their
respective pieces on the board. Following the huge success of the
game, its software version was also developed by a team of leading
programmers which enhanced the game’s popularity reaching all over
the world. In fact many of the board games like the chess,
checkers were intimidated by Backgammon.
The game revolves around the play pieces called stones or chips.
The player who removes all the other player’s stones from the
board is declared the winner. As the reaction time and playing
time is quite short it is played in quick successions as games
and in the end, the winner is given certain points. Each side
of the board consists of twelve triangles and the other twelve
triangles are numbered continuously depicting a horse shoe like
shape, numbered from one to twenty four. Points 1 to 6 are called
the inner board and the 7 to12 are called the outer board. The
7 point is a bar point and the 13 point named a midpoint.
The game kick-starts just like any other board game but with
2 stones, rolling a pair of dice and. The players move their chips
in accordance with the number on the dice rolled outside the board.
For e.g. If a player rolls a 7 followed by a 6, then the player
should move the stone 7 steps forward and the other stone or may
also move the same stone 6 steps forward again. The players take
turns alternatively and continue playing the game until a player
loses all his stones.
